Royal Cornwall Show sees highest visitor numbers in seven years at over 120,600
Crowds flocked to the Wadebridge showground at the weekend for the first time in three years
The Royal Cornwall Show has come back with a bang as it recorded its highest visitor numbers in seven years.
Crowds flocked to the Wadebridge showground in their thousands over the weekend for the first time in three years, due to the pandemic,.
Bosses of the show have now confirmed that 120, 671 people attended in total across the three days.
Revealing the total, Show Secretary Chris Riddle, ARAgS, said the event had been a resounding success: “After 3 years away it really was a step into the unknown in terms of crowd levels, but with only half a day of wet weather, the sun shone for both Friday and Saturday, and people returned in force. It was great to see everyone back at the Show, with so many people enjoying all that was on offer.
“The Royal Cornwall Show returned, and as usual, showcased Cornish heritage and agriculture, with an atmosphere that shone through."
One of the highlights of the event was the visit by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall on the second day.
“We were extremely honoured to receive a visit from Their Royal Highnesses, especially in what has been a remarkable couple of weeks including the Platinum Jubilee and His Royal Highness celebrating 70 years as the Duke of Cornwall” Chris added.
The Royal visit included a presentation of a large harvest jug, commissioned by the RCAA to commemorate HRH’s milestone, depicting local agriculture and animals. The piece was created by local potter Adrian Brough from Lelant, and the Duke was visibly pleased with his gift.
On Friday, the Prime Minister Boris Johnston also visited the Show to speak with local farmers and people as well as taking a tour around the Showground. This wasn’t the only visit from a politician, when on Thursday we welcomed two Secretaries of State, George Eustice and Nadine Dorries.
The headline main ring entertainment acts were well received with the breath-taking display presented by Iberian Show Tour, and the Bolddog FMX Stunt Team offering two very different spectacles.
The RAF Falcons parachute team made a dramatic entrance and the Shetland Pony Grand National excited the crowds.
“Our hard-working, dedicated team of volunteer stewards, staff and contractors worked extremely hard to ensure that the Show, after 3 years away, went ahead with barely a hitch.” Chris concluded.
The post show clean-up is underway and planning for next year’s event (8th, 9th & 10th June 2023) has already commenced.
