The Redruth International Mining and Pasty Festival gets underway later.

The event returns for the first time in three years and takes place until Sunday (10 September), with a weekend full of festivities planned.

Today, the community can join in with the Miners' Tribute Walk starting from The Miner Statue in the town centre at 4.00pm.

The route departs from Fore Street and ends at Wheal Uny, accompanied by music, storytelling and memories of former miners. The finale will be the smoking of the chimney stacks at the end of the evening.

On Saturday, people are being invited to enter their own pasty creations into the homemade pasty competitions.

There's also a new event for 2023, with the Redruth Pasty Relay Championships. It'll see teams of at least 10 pass a salt dough pasty up Fore Street as quickly as possible.

Alice Lamming, Community Projects Manager at Redruth Town Council said: "We can’t wait to welcome the community of Redruth into town to join in with the Festival.

"As well as the competitions, we have live music, performances, a Diaspora Food Village, market stalls, Buttermarket hard-hat tours and craft workshops including crimping practice. There’ll be so much to keep the whole family entertained all day!"

On Sunday, the action moves to Victoria Park for the Fun Day and a chance for the four-legged members of the community to get involved by entering the Dog Show organised by K9 Crusaders.
