Cornwall Council to host question and answer session on proposed devolution deal
The Facebook Live event gets underway at 6.30pm
Residents can find out more about proposals for a new devolution deal for Cornwall at a live question and answer session hosted by Cornwall Council today (December 13).
Council leader Linda Taylor will be joined by cabinet members to answer questions and talk about the consultation process at the Facebook Live event starting at 6.30pm.
Participants can follow the discussion on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.
Everyone can have their say on the public consultation for the proposed Cornwall devolution agreement which was launched last week at https://letstalk.cornwall.gov.uk/bigdeal and runs until February 17, 2023.
A key condition of the deal set by government is changing how the council’s political leadership is determined.
The deal would only go ahead if the current governance model of having a council leader appointed by 87 Cornwall councillors was replaced by a new role of a council mayor directly elected by the people of Cornwall.
Cllr Taylor said: "If you want to find out more about what this proposed devolution deal could mean for you and for Cornwall this is your chance to get your questions answered.
"You may be wondering what this new funding could deliver and what the benefits would be of having a mayor for Cornwall directly elected by you as residents.
"I hope many of you will take this opportunity to join our live discussion and have your voice heard on what would be a big deal for Cornwall."
You can join the devolution deal Q&A live event at 6.30pm here.
Following the public consultation the proposed deal will be considered by the council’s cabinet next March. It will then go to full council for consideration in July 2023.
