A busy road near St Austell had to be closed because of a police incident.

Officers were called to the scene at lunchtime today (14th October) amid concerns for a man's welfare on a bridge.

The A391 was closed in both directions between the Treverbyn roundabout and the B3374.

Officers have now confirmed that the man has moved to safety and the road has reopened.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 1.40pm today to Kaolin Heights, St Austell, following reports of concern for the welfare of a man on the bridge.

"The man has since moved to safety.

"The road was previously closed but has since been reopened."

Inrix Traffic and Travel says: "A391 in both directions re-opened, police incident over between Treverbyn Road Roundabout (Carclaze, St Austell) and B3374 (South Carluddon Roundabout, Penwithick)."
