Plans for a new stadium in Cornwall could start as early as this Spring.

The new site, which will be known as Truro City FC Community Hub, will include two pitches - a main ground and an artificial community pitch - and have a capacity for 3,000 people in the crowd.

"This is a massive first step"

Alex Black, consultant for Truro City, said: "For the players of Truro City Football Club they will be at home and hopefully, we've gone from one of the best supporting sides in the level we're playing at to one of the worst because it's a long way to go to Plymouth to go and watch us.

"Cornwall must have one of the counties with the worst sporting facilities in the whole of the country. While some people might think this is a small step, this is a massive first step and a starting point for everybody".

Watch: Reactions to new stadium plans

After recent publication of the new plans for the sporting facility at Langarth, Cornish Pirates, who are owned by the same holding company, have discussed their possible relocation to the new venue.

The plans for the initial facility would see the return of Truro City Football Club to the city after nearly two seasons out of county - and has been described by a must needed move.

Rebecca Thomas, CEO of Cornish Pirates said: "After many years working on the Stadium for Cornwall project with the hope of that becoming the permanent home for both sporting Clubs, these revised plans breathe new life into a sustainable future for both rugby and football in Cornwall.

"The facility can be expanded to 5,000 or 10,000"

The facility has the ability to be enhanced further in the future to allow for the relocation of the rugby club, with upgrades to the pitch surface, and the holding company are now actively seeking investors.

Rebecca added: "The new plans are for a 3,000 capacity stadium which meets the immediate needs of both Clubs. If sufficient funding can be found, and there is the need for development in the future, the facility can be expanded to 5,000 or 10,000. The future of the league structure within English rugby is currently unknown but the aspirations for top level sport in Cornwall still remain and we don’t want to close the door on that.

"Following the council withdrawal of the Stadium project from the levelling up scheme it has been critical to ensure that a facility can be delivered, that relocates both clubs and gives them a chance of a sustainable future with potential for growth. The new plans are for a 3,000 capacity stadium which meets the immediate needs of both clubs".
