Kite surfer dies after getting into difficulty in the sea in Newquay

Police have confirmed that a kite surfer has died after getting into difficulty in the sea in Newquay.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Thursday afternoon but sadly the man in his 30s could not be saved.

Police say his family has been told and a file will now be prepared for the coroner.

"Police were called by the Coastguard at 3.30pm on Thursday 24 September following concern for the welfare of a male kite surfer who had got into difficulty in the sea in Newquay.

"Emergency services attended the scene where the man was treated by paramedics. Sadly, the man in his 30s, was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
