Jubilee Pool in Penzance will be closed this winter - to secure the long-term sustainability for the business.

The outdoor pool has closed until May 2024, when it will re-open until October.

Bosses say the move has been made because of 'significant and sustained increases' in their energy costs.

They add last season’s low visitor numbers and the impact of the cost of living crisis on demand means that it is not financially feasible to remain open all year round.

During this time, staff will be carrying out essential maintenance work, alongside the pool’s general winter maintenance programme.

This includes the repairs of the sea well, as well as to the car park and the completion of a valve automation system which helps to empty and refill both the main pool and the geothermal pool.

In addition to this, work will also be done on their geothermal facilities to improve sustainability and efficiency.

Nicola Murdoch, CEO of Jubilee Pool said: "We are having to reshape our business model in response to the challenging financial circumstances we must operate within.

"We are committed to providing a sustainable community facility, and these actions are our best way of doing that.

"Last year we had a great series of events and activities and we’re really excited to return in the summer with another fantastic programme to offer our visitors – please do check our social channels and website for updates on these."

The Jubilee Pool will reopen for the season on May Day weekend 2024.
