Warning after fire engine gets blocked by parked car in north Cornwall

Crews were out on a shout but couldn't get through

A plea has gone out to Cornwall after a fire engine on a shout was blocked by a parked car.

The Delabole crew couldn't get past the vehicle when on route to an incident on Monday night (20th December).

The team shared a video on social media, that shows a silver care blocking their emergency vehicle with the blue lights flashing.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service us urging people not to obstruct the emergency services, saying "every second counts".

Posting on Twitter, Delabole Community Fire Station said: "This evening while on route to an incident, our route was blocked by a parked car. Please think “can an emergency vehicle get past my car?”

The team from Wadebridge Community Fire Station also shared the video.

They added: "Please ensure you park so your vehicle isn’t obstructing the emergency services, or any other vehicle that may need access!

"Every second counts in an emergency."

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service says that motorists that do not consider if an emergency vehicle can get past their parked vehicle, are putting lives at risk by blocking off roads.

They say: "Even stopping on box junctions outside community fire stations can cause us a delay in getting to an incident.

"If your vehicle is parked and blocking our route, you may find one of our leaflets under your windscreen wiper - Think Before You Park notice

"However, it is not just parking that is the problem and firefighters say some drivers are not sure what to do when they hear the sirens blaring."
