Paddleboarder dies after getting into difficulty off Cornish coast

A paddleboarder has died after getting into difficulty off the Cornish coast.

Police and the coastguard were called to the estuary between Padstow and Rock on Bank Holiday Monday.

The 42-year-old, who is believed to be a holidaymaker, was pulled from the water by a fellow paddleboader.

Officers say he was given CPR at the scene but tragically he could not be saved.

The man's family has been told and a file is now being prepared for the coroner.

"Police were contacted by the coastguard at around 1.55pm on Monday 31st August following reports that a man had got into difficulty while paddleboarding with friends in the estuary between Padstow and Rock.

"The 42-year-old man, believed to have been on holiday in the area, was brought ashore by a fellow paddleboarder. Sadly, despite CPR being attempted, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The man's next-of-kin have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
