Firefighters have praised the actions of neighbours, who saved a resident from a smoke-filled home in Truro.

Crews from the city, Tolvaddon and Falmouth rushed to reports of a fire at Rosedale Road in the early hours of Monday (26th July)

They arrived to find neighbours had called 999 and broken a window to help ventilate the property, after hearing the smoke alarm.

It's understood neighbour George Burns was first on the scene and managed to get the door open.

The team from Truro Community Fire Station said they were able to rescue the person inside, thanks to the quick-thinking.

They added that the cause of the incident was a cooking left unattended on a hob, and the temperature read over 400C.

Truro Community Fire Station said: "At 02:46 this morning a Truro On Call Crew along with @TolvaddonCFRS & @FalmouthCFRS responded to reports of smoke alarms and a heavily smoke-logged property in the city with a person inside.

"Fortunately for the occupant their working smoke alarms alerted their neighbours who both alerts @CornwallFRS & broke a window to try and ventilate the property prior to our arrival.

"These actions prevented a much worse outcome.

"The cause was unattended cooking on a hob. The hob temperature read over 400C.

"Never leave cooking unattended and always have working smoke alarms".
