Walkers and cyclists in Cornwall will be able to enjoy Mount’s Bay Coast Path during the Christmas break as upgrade works are paused over the festive season.

The path is a popular draw during the holidays, and so engineers have amended the programme to allow it to fully reopen between Saturday 19 December and Sunday 3 January.

Significant improvements are currently underway along the trail to boost the path’s resilience and accessibility for users.

While the seven-month project has forced the closure of a few sections of the path, engineers have scheduled the work in sections to give walkers and cyclists as much access as possible.

The upgrade will provide users with a new resurfaced path and a new link to take the route away from Longrock car park.

There will also be new benches and improved access to the beach for people with mobility issues, as well as plans to develop an arts trail along the route which embraces the assets of the area, creating a unique experience for residents and visitors year-round.

“Work is progressing well on the improvements with Cormac teams out in all weathers to complete sections in time to reopen the path at Christmas.

“Anyone who has used the path in recent years will know the sea has not been kind to the trail and this investment is very much welcomed.

"This project is not only about protecting the path for many years to come and improving access for residents who regularly use it. It will also contribute to the regeneration of the local area by encouraging people to visit all year round.”

Councillor Tim Dwelly, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for culture, economy and planning.

Work will resume on Sunday 3 January when the path will close between Eastern Green pedestrian bridge (opposite Sainsburys) and Penzance Railway Station; and between Marazion Station Car Park and the former public toilets building about 650 metres to the west of the car park.

Signs will be in place along the route after Christmas explaining more about the project timetable as well as which sections of the path will be closed and when.
