A missing swimmer has been found safe and well following a weekend of searches in Cornwall.

It was reported that a woman in a black dress was seen diving beneath the waves at Perranporth but failed to resurface.

Lifeboats, lifeguards, coastguard rescue teams and a helicopter were sweeping the coastline near Perran Sands.

At the time police said it was possible that she had made it to the shore unharmed and did not realise the incident had been reported.

They have now confirmed that she was found safe and well at home in Truro on Monday afternoon.

Officers are thanking the public for their help.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The female swimmer has been identified and located safe and well at home this afternoon 9th August.

"The woman, from Truro, was traced thanks to a successful search carried out by local officers, RNLI lifeguards and HM Coastguard.

"We would like to thank members of the public for their assistance with this matter."
