Mevagissey Harbour to benefit from over £100,000 of funding

Mevagissey Harbour is to benefit from £109,140 of funding to help deliver an accessible ramp for Island Quay.
Cornwall Council has approved the money from the Government's Shared Prosperity Fund.
The bid was encouraged and supported by local Cornwall Councillor James Mustoe and Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay Steve Double.
Cllr Mustoe said: "I was delighted to hear of the success of Mevagissey Harbour Trust’s bid to the Shared Prosperity Fund.
"I encouraged the Harbour Trust to bid for this when the funding became available last year, and brought the responsible Cabinet Member, Cllr Louis Gardner, down to see the area and listen to the proposals in August.
"I am told by Cornwall Council that the Harbour Trust subsequently put in an exemplary bid and should be congratulated for their diligence in preparing and submitting it. It was good to gather widespread public support for the proposals along the way.
"Thanks to everyone who wrote in, to Steve Double MP for his support in particular, and to the trustees and Harbourmaster Andrew Trevarton and his team for following it through."
Once built, the ramp aims to make it a safe place to launch paddleboards and canoes from, as well as to be much more accessible to the wider public.
Mr Double said: "I am pleased to see the success of Mevagissey Harbour Trust’s strong community focused bid to the Shared Prosperity Fund.
"I have met with the Harbour Trust on a number of occasions to understand their vision, and as a regular user of Mevagissey Harbour, was delighted to give my support for their application.
"This is an excellent example of a community coming together to deliver a successful bid for Government funding, and I congratulate all involved for their work on this.
"Having worked hard to secure the £132m for the Shared Prosperity Fund, to replace the previous funding through the EU, I am I pleased to see this funding now being available for local projects such as this. I look forward to seeing this project delivered for the community of Mevagissey as well as the many visitors who go there every year."
