A double weather warning for strong winds has been issued for Cornwall, for gusts of up to 65mph.

The Met Office says gales will batter the coast on Saturday and Sunday, whipping up large waves.

Forecasters say there is the risk of power cuts and travel disruption too.

The first yellow alert will be in force from 1pm - 7pm on Saturday, followed by the second from midnight to 12pm on Sunday.

It comes just weeks after storms Eunice and Franklin caused widespread damage across the Duchy.

What can we expect?

The Met Office says a spell of windy and wet weather during Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning may lead to some travel disruption and we can expect:

Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely and damage to trees possible

Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves

What does the forecast say?

The Met Office forecast for Saturday states: "A spell of wet and windy weather with coastal gales and heavy rain will develop during Saturday afternoon.

"Gusts in coastal areas are likely to reach 50-55mph and perhaps as high as 60mph in the most exposed parts of Cornwall and southwest Wales.

"Inland, gusts will tend to peak at 45-50 mph away from hills and mountains. Winds will then ease a little during the evening".

Sunday's forecast states: "A swathe of strong winds are expected across parts of Cornwall and west Wales during Sunday.

"Southerly winds may reach 50-60mph along mainly coastal districts, before clearing northwards later Sunday.

"There is a small chance that a few places across west Cornwall and Pembrokeshire could see isolated gusts to 65mph across the most exposed locations.

"This may lead to some poor coastal conditions and transport disruption".
