Massive fire in area of Cornish nature reserve seen for miles around

Crews suspect the blaze that broke out at St Breock Downs/Rosenannon on Tuesday night (9th February) was arson

A huge gorse fire in the area of a Cornish nature reserve was so big, crews were fighting the flames until the early hours of the morning.

The blaze at St Breock Downs/Rosenannon could be seen for miles around, from Wadebridge, Padstow and Bodmin.

It follows a similar big fire that broke out in the same area exactly a year ago.

Crews from Wadebridge, Padstow, St Columb and Bodmin were called out last night (Tuesday 9th February).

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service received more than 80 calls to report the fire.

They suspect it was arson.

"Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service have received in excess of 80 calls reporting a large fire on the moor between Wadebridge and St Columb.

"Crews from Wadebridge, St Columb, Padstow and Bodmin are in attendance and en route to this incident.

"23:12 - Make pumps x4. Additional resources from St Columb and Padstow are en route to the incident. An Officer is also in attendance.

"Update 0015 hours: Multiple large fronts of gorse are alight, the incident has been sectorised and the crews are using beaters in an attempt to get the fire under control.

"Update 0100 hours: The fire has been extinguished. Crews are now returning to their home stations. Arson is suspected".
