A man has handed himself into custody, after armed officers cordoned off a road in St Austell.

Police were called to the scene in the Moorland Road area yesterday (Tuesday 10 January) following concerns for the welfare of a man.

There were worries that he could harm himself and others, therefore armed officers attended and a cordon was put in place.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Negotiators attended and after protracted conversations, a local man in his 30’s has since handed himself safely into police custody, where he remains at this time.

"There were no reported injuries and no wider risk to the public.

"Enquires continue into this matter and we would like to thank the public for their patience shown whilst officers responded to this incident."
