Delivery van 'pivoting' on corner of lane backing onto railway line in Cornwall

The incident at Carbis Bay was one of two lucky escapes in west Cornwall over the weekend

Two drivers have had lucky escapes after incidents on the roads in west Cornwall.

A delivery van was left pivoting on the corner of a lane at Carbis Bay, backing onto the railway line.

Firefighters say it was in a 'precarious position' on Saturday afternoon and trains had to be stopped while the vehicle was winched to safety.

"Two appliances and a Flexi Duty Officer attended this incident. A long wheel based delivery van was pivoting on the corner of a lane which backed onto the railway embankment.

"British Rail were contacted and the trains were stopped while the vehicle was recovered.

"The crew used a winch to move the vehicle to a safe location".

A woman had to be treated by paramedics after a crash in Newlyn, when her car ended up in a stream.

Firefighters rushed to the scene at The Combe on Saturday afternoon, along with police and South Western Ambulance Service.

Luckily, the casualty had already made it out of the vehicle.

"One appliance from Penzance Fire Station and a Flexi Duty Officer attended this incident. The vehicle had entered the stream and the occupant was out of the vehicle.

"The crew made the vehicle safe and dealt with traffic management prior to the arrival of the police.

"Ambulance service were on scene to take care of the female driver of the vehicle".
