Dog who went missing after being spooked by fireworks is reunited with owner
Edward ran off after getting scared on Newquay headland
A dog who went missing after being spooked by fireworks in Cornwall has been reunited with his family.
Edward, the five-year-old German Shepherd cross Akita, ran off on Newquay headland after getting scared by the loud bangs on Saturday evening (30th October).
Extensive searches were carried out all around the coast path from Towan to Crantock, the golf course and the River Gannel.
It was feared that Edward could have been injured and hiding. His owner says he has a leg seriously vulnerable to a cruciate injury and the speed he was last seen running at would have put a lot of pressure on it.
Appeals were posted across social media over the weekend which were shared, liked and commented on thousands of times.
Edward's owners even put up a £500 reward to anyone who was able to bring him home safe to them.
Following around 36 hours of searches the pup was found at the end of Newquay headland on Monday morning.
He was tired, sore and hungry but is already relaxed and happy to be back home.
His owner Kelly told us she wants to thank the 'seriously amazing people of Newquay and afar' for their help and messages of love and support.
She said: "We couldn't have got him home without them!! They have been out of this world and really gone over and above to help! We’ve been completely blown away!
"Special thanks to Jessie Stewart for finding him in the end!! He’s very sore - his legs are very tired and his foot pads are really bruised but he’s happy and chilled. Very relieved to be home! We’re completely exhausted but could not be happier!!!"
Edward is now back home and catching up on some sleep.
