Two police officers assaulted and spat at while responding to incident in Looe

Two police officers have been spat at and assaulted in Looe town centre while responding to an incident.

They were called to reports of a disorder outside The Ship Inn on Fore Street on Saturday (2nd July).

Officers say several assaults had been carried out on members of the public and two people were arrested at the scene.

We are being reassured that this type of incident is rare in the town and that unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated.

Inspector Arron Clarke, from Looe Police, posted on Facebook: "On Saturday 2nd July officers responded to the report of a disorder outside The Ship Inn on Fore Street, Looe.

"On arrival at the location two individuals were immediately arrested for several assaults on members of the public. Whilst arresting the suspects two police officers were assaulted and spat at.

"It is rare for this type of incident to happen in Looe. People go out in Looe to have a safe and enjoyable evening; they do not expect to be met with this type of unacceptable behaviour and it will not be tolerated. If you cannot drink alcohol sensibly then you are not welcome in Looe.

"Looe is a wonderful and safe place to live, work and visit and we will do our best to ensure it remains that way. This matter is still under investigation, and I will update you all on the conclusion of it."
