Lifeboat launched to help swimmers amid reports of St Ives chemical spill

The RNLI lifeboat has been called to help swimmers amid reports of a chemical spill in a local stream in St Ives.

Emergency services are on the scene in Carbis Bay, dealing with a 'large incident'.

Police were called to reports of at least one person having suffered breathing difficulties.

The St Ives RNLI says the crew launched the inshore lifeboat at 10.35am on Wednesday morning following a request from the Falmouth Coastguard.

There were reports of a chemical spill and concerns for anyone in the sea at Carbis Bay area.

The main requirement for the crew was to speak with swimmers and ensure that anyone in the sea got out safely .

The beach has been closed to the public whilst the police and fire service take control of the situation.
