Kayaker rescued after four hour search
She was found four nautical miles off Rame Head
Lifeboat crews from Looe, Fowey and Plymouth have been involved in a major operation to find a kayaker off the Cornwall coast.
Five RNLI lifeboats were sent out at 12.13 on Monday night - the woman had told someone on shore what her plans were, but she was late returning.
The Coastguard Rescue helicopter (Rescue 175) from Lee-on-Solent arrived on scene at 2.50am and began searching a wider area.
At 03.40am the helicopter located the kayaker four nautical miles south of Rame Head, and lit the way for the Plymouth all-weather lifeboat to get to her.
She was recovered and handed over to the ambulance service.
The RNLI has this advice for anyone planning to go out on the water:
- Take a fully charged mobile phone or VHF radio
- Know how to call for help. Dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
- Let someone know you are going out, where you plan to go and when you plan to return.
- Check the weather conditions and the tide times.
