RNAS Culdrose officers release single about "sailing home for Christmas"
They described being reunited with family as "overwhelming"
Helston Navy Officers have released a Christmas song about coming home after they were deployed for seven months last year.
Those serving on the HMS Queen Elizabeth were met with their families and children at RNAS Culdrose in 2021.
It inspired Lt Cdr Dave Emery and Lt Cdr Phil Clark from the 'Little Red Ambulance' - to write the song about returning to their homes.
The song, performed alongside the Culdrose Military Wives Choir, has already reached the Top 20 in the iTunes chart.
Phil Clark talked to us about what it was like to see his children again:
"It's really difficult to explain in words"
"They were four years old and two years old when I came back and obviously, I was desperate to see them. Seeing the family and seeing the children when I came back was really important to me.
"It was definitely an overwhelming feeling of relief and joy, just seeing them in the flesh again after only being able to speak to them over the phone in the past seven months".
"It's overwhelming really"
Phil continued: "Sailing Home for Christmas is our bands tenth Christmas song. The idea behind the song came when we were starting to feel the anticipation of what it was going to be like, coming home to our families after so long.
"You start to get these feelings of excitement and nerves as you start coming home, to the UK. It's really difficult to explain in words, it's overwhelming really. This was the first time I'd gone away and had come home to children at home".
Funds from downloads of "Sailing Home for Christmas" will go to the choir and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
