Guests evacuated and rehoused following massive hotel fire in Bude

Firefighters have confirmed that everyone is safe and well

It has been confirmed that guests were evacuated to a place of safety and have been rehoused following a big hotel fire in Bude.

Multiple 999 calls came in at around 1.20am on Friday morning (13th August) reporting that there was a blaze on Marine Drive.

Firefighters confirmed that the rear kitchen area was well alight with the roof space involved too.

Teams from across Devon and Cornwall were called to the scene and battled the flames through the night.

As of 6.40am Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said that the incident has scaled back and they are still monitoring hotspots.

Wadebridge Community Fire Station said: "Crews from across Cornwall and Devon have been battling a hotel fire overnight in Widemouth Bay near Bude.

"Our water carrier supplied multiple tanks of water to the scene while our major pumping appliance was on standby at Bude Community Fire Station to provide area cover for the duration of the incident.

"All residents were evacuated to safety and placed in alternative accommodation."

And Newquay Community Fire Station added: "Red watch and Newquay On-call firefighters supported Bude Community Fire Station Wadebridge Community Fire Station St Austell Community Fire Station Delabole Community Fire Station as well as colleagues from Devon Fire and rescue service for a hotel fire near Bude in the early hours, we were able to deploy #nationalresilience #HVPCapability and supply the water to the incident by effectively replenishing 2 water carriers in a water shuttle #HVP #fire #cornwall expect delays in Widemouth-Bude area as the #Incident is still ongoing #firealarmsystem save lives."
