Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service are leading an investigation into the cause of a fire at flats in Truro.

Crews from across west Cornwall battled a large blaze in a block on Trevose Road in the early hours of Thursday morning (4th August).

Critical Control says multiple 999 calls were received, scrambling crews from as far away as St Just.

Police were also called and confirmed that although no-one was injured, some residents had to be evacuated and one of the properties was "severely damaged".

A spokesperson said: "Police were called around 1.40am today, 4th August, by the fire service following a fire within a block of four flats in Trevose Road in Truro.

"Three of the properties were affected and several residents were evacuated. One of the flats was severely damaged by fire. No-one was injured".

'Flames and fire raging from first floor flat'

Nearby residents described the flames as 'huge' and one neighbour told us there was a 'loud pop' from the windows when it broke out.

Andy lives on the same row and said: "I heard a lot of noise outside and I looked out of the bedroom window and saw all the flames and all the fire raging out of the first floor flat.

"The last crew didn't leave until about quarter to six so they obviously stayed to make sure everything was safely put out".

He added: "I went back to bed and tried to get some sleep but failed because we had all the appliances outside, all the flashing lights and the sound of pumping water, so I don't think anybody in the area got any sleep last night".

Initially firefighters from Truro and Falmouth were sent to the scene, before calling back-up from Tolvaddon, Perranporth and the Incident Command Unit from St Just.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service confirmed the fire was extinguished shortly before 3am.
