The first permanent vaccine centre has opened in Falmouth, offering jabs and boosters to people in and around the town.

The partnership-led COVID vaccination clinic is located on the Moor and offers walk in and pre-booked appointment to those wanting vaccinations.

The clinic is situated at the Old Post Office at the Falmouth Town Council building.

It offers an alternative to the Stithians Showground site and has been made available thanks to a collaboration with local and national health authorities, organisations and the Falmouth Town Team.

"It's so important to get the word out"

Edwin Inayat is a registered nurse and one of those helping with the vaccine roll out in Falmouth.

He told us: "It's so important to get the word out, that we are here now and that this clinic has been set up for the population of Falmouth, Penryn and the local area. Residents can walk in without an appointment and get their jab.

"We have had a decent number of people show up, but if there's more demand we'll be here more often. So we are encouraging and hoping that more and more people will take this opportunity to get their vaccine done".

5,811 (82%) of the population of eligible people in Falmouth and Penryn have already had their booster jab but the clinic predicts an increase in demand once students return to university.

The new permanent site follows successful pop-up clinics in and around the town.

Previously, the closest permanent vaccine centre was a 15-35 minute journey from Falmouth and there are hopes the new clinic will offer jabs to more people who cannot travel by car.

Richard Wilcox is the manager of Falmouth BID and told us: "This is the culmination of pop-up sites and were the most well attended in the county. We know they're in demand and we know we're certainly not beating COVID just yet and we know there's lots of people who aren't fully vaccinated.

"The team here led by Reeds pharmacy are assessing closely what time works, whether 9AM is the correct time to start and there's room to have some evening sessions as well. There's decisions to take place that suits the majority the best we can".

It is open to all age groups and is currently running four days a week, although times and evening clinics will be discussed in the future.

Richard continued: "The additional pressure of the virus continues to hit us all in different ways and we have all pulled together in Falmouth time and time again to provide forward-facing strategies and practical solutions.

"We’re already planning for a busy February half term and Easter for our business community.

"To ensure that the current staff shortages and challenges are minimised as much as possible, we’re urging everyone to come forward to get their first and second doses and boosters asap.

"We know the hugely negative impact that Covid has had, one of those is the ability to have full programmes of staff and has hugely affected businesses to work effectively so the more that we can do like this the more that businesses can do".

Falmouth residents can now book a jab at the in-town Falmouth vaccine clinic via the NHS booking system or simply walk-in.
