First cases of covid-19 confirmed on the Isles of Scilly

It is the first cases to have been confirmed on the Islands since September

The first positive coronavirus cases have been confirmed on the Isles of Scilly.

It was announced on Tuesday 12th January by the Isles of Scilly Council who said that there are currently fewer than three cases and they have tested positive within the last seven days.

No cases of the virus have been confirmed on the Islands since September.

Councillors would like to reassure residents that those with covid-19 are now self-isolating and are being supported by its local public health teams.

Residents are being told that there is no need to take any specific action at this time unless contacted directly by an officer from the council or by NHS Test and Trace.

A reminder has also gone out to islanders that it is vital to abide by the current government guidance and to take every precaution to help minimise the risk of spread.

"We are sorry to have to inform you that we have been made aware of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases on the Isles of Scilly.

"There are fewer than 3 cases at present and they have tested positive within the last 7 days.

"To protect individuals' identities, we are not able to provide the exact number of cases or specify further information relating to timing or location at this time.

"All confirmed cases are now self-isolating and are being supported by our Public Health and local teams. All possible contacts are being followed up by NHS Test and Trace in consultation with our Public Health team.

"At this time we do not need the public to take any specific action unless contacted directly by an officer from the council or by NHS Test and Trace.

"However, it remains vital to abide by the current government guidance and take every precaution to help minimise the risk of spread: stay at home wherever possible, keep indoor spaces well-ventilated, wash hands frequently, maintain social distance and wear a face covering.

"You must also request a test at the first sign of any COVID-19 symptoms. To access a test, please call our Testing Helpline on 01626 204950. The helpline is open every day, Monday to Sunday, 8am to 5pm. You can also email: d-ccg.devoncovid19testing@nhs.net to request a test.

"We understand that this announcement will cause concern and may come as a shock, however, our Public Health team are doing everything they can to minimise the risk of further infection. The best thing that you can do to support this effort is to follow official advice.

"We will provide an update on the situation as soon as we can, but in the meantime stay safe and continue to look after one another."
