Fire crews have been tackling a blaze at a pub in Camelford.

Teams from Bodmin, Wadebridge and Delabole were called to The Masons Arms at 5.18pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 July).

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service say it broke out in a chip pan and spread to the kitchen.

A spokesperson said: "Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one dry powder extinguisher and a thermal image camera to extinguish the fire.

"Once the fire had been extinguished crews isolated gas and electricity supplies and removed the chip pan involved from the kitchen.

"Firefighters used small tools and thermal imaging camera to cut away to ensure that the fire had not spread.

"One casualty was treated on scene for smoke inhalation by Ambulance staff."

The Masons Arms have praised the quick response of the emergency services.

They say their staff and customers are all safe and uninjured, adding that they'll "bounce back yet again":

"Well where do I start. The challenges of running a business. Survive Covid. Get over a freak flood. A fire on the other hand is another level of worry especially a week away from our busy period.

"Unfortunately the kitchen now needs a full refit. The main thing is no one was hurt and everything else is replaceable.

"Another great example of why we chose Camelford as our home. The community rallied round and all the messages are appreciated.

"We will keep you all updated with our progress and look forward once again to opening our doors and fighting on.

"Sorry to the bookings we had this evening and over the next few weeks. We will be in contact with you and can only apologise for the inconvenience this may cause you."
