A number of fairy doors at the Enchanted Trail in Cornwall have been vandalised.

The doors - which were created by local resident John Rowe - can be found dotted along a path through Coosebean Woods, just outside Truro.

"I couldn't believe the damage"

John Rowe said: "They were pretty well damaged. I had about 10 done before but these were really bad. I had to take all the stuff home and a couple of trips to repair and renew whatever I can".

11 were damaged recently after already being targeted in the past.

"They've happened the first month after the first lockdown. I put the first door up a while before the lockdown but throughout the time they've been there, I would say around four times there has been damaged".

The trail from Coosebean to Malabar and is very popular with residents from the surrounding areas.

John has thanked the support of all of those involved in making the magic trail for people in Truro, including his daughter Victoria Rowe who set up the Facebook page and Bernadette Rowe who takes care of the nature side of the walk.

He told us: "Chris Waddle has done a wonderful job to arrange it and all of his volunteers. They've turned it into something really remarkable. When I've been available, I've helped with building bridges and boardwalks. We have so many people that I am surprised who step up and say: 'I'll do that'. I think to myself these people, this is where the good is".

With plenty of hard work, John has brought the vandalised fairy doors back life. He says they will be fixed in position next week.

John continued: "It really helps people and their mental state to come down and enjoy nature.

"All of these things are there to enjoy"

"It does cost money and to see that damage and you can imagine the look on children's faces when they go and look for a door and they see it smashed up on the floor. It's not a good thing and it does cost".

He's asking all visitors to be vigilant and if you see vandalism, to report it.
