Eight-year-old girl from Cornwall walking 20,000 steps to help struggling families
Seren, who used to be in care, is among those supporting our nationwide fundraising drive on Cash for Kids Day
An eight year old girl from Cornwall, who used to be in care, is taking on an epic challenge to support Cash for Kids.
Our children's charity is holding a nationwide day of action on Friday 14th May, to help families hit by the pandemic.
The most recent figures show 30,000 children in the Duchy are living in poverty.
However that came before Covid - and it is feared the current total could be higher!
Seren will be walking or marching 20,000 steps.
She has already done 10,000 and will complete her fundraiser over the weekend, wearing a uniform like Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Speaking to Pirate FM's drivetime presenters, Jonny and Saffy, the youngster explained why she wanted to take part.
"I'm doing 20,000 steps for Cash 4 Kids because I kind of used to be one.
"Debbie (Seren's mum) mentioned it and then she showed me a video. I used to be one of those children since I went into care".
Saffy said "and it's made you want to do something for other children who are also in care?", to which Seren replied "yep".
When asked about her inspiration, Seren said: "I'll be wearing Sir Tom's uniform".
Saffy asked "did Sir Tom inspire you?", to which Seren replied "yes, I watched him on the TV".
