Dog reunited with owners after falling over cliff near St Austell

The coastguard used a rope rescue team to bring the pet to safety

A dog has been rescued after stumbling over a cliff on the south Cornwall coast.

Coastguard crews from St Austell and Mevagissey got the shout to Duporth on Friday evening.

The pet had been stuck there for several hours and the rope rescue team managed to bring it to safety.

Crews say the dog suffered minor injuries but was reunited with its owners.

People are being urged to keep pets on leads around Cornwall's coast.

"Call out for the team this evening to a dog over the cliff.

"Supported by Mevagissey Coastguard the team were tasked to recover a local dog who stumbled off a cliff at Duporth.

"The rope rescue team deployed a rope technician over the cliff to recover the dog, who had been there for a few hours.

"Some great teamwork by both teams to recover the slightly injured dog back to its owners.

"Please keep dogs on a lead when near cliffs, as even the best behaved dogs can wonder off.

"The right call to the coastguard was made which led to a good outcome."
