Betsie the Jack Russell reunited with owner after falling 20ft down mine shaft in St Ives

A dog has been reunited with her owner after falling around 20ft down a mine shaft in St Ives.

Betsie, a two-year-old Jack Russell, had been chasing a rabbit when she fell.

She landed on a ledge above a high drop with water below, in the Rosewall Hill area.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 9am on Wednesday morning.

They managed to use line rescue equipment to bring her to safety.

"C13p1 with a crew of 4, assisted by the highly skilled and very knowledgeable line rescue team from Tolvaddon CFRS successfully rescued a 2 year old Jack Russell named Betsie who had fallen down this mineshaft after chasing a rabbit.

"It was great to be able to reunite her with her owners."

"An appliance from St Ives, supported by the line rescue vehicles from Tolvaddon attended a call to a dog that had fallen down a mine shaft at 0900 today.

"On arrival the technical rescue officer confirmed a dog had fallen approximately 20 feet down the shaft and landed on a ledge above a high drop with water below.

"Firefighters set up a rescue platform with line rescue equipment and one firefighter was deployed successfully rescuing the animal and reuniting it with the owner."
