Crews from across Cornwall called to HUGE barn fire near St Columb

Crews from across Cornwall have spent the night battling a huge barn fire near St Columb Major.

The blaze engulfed the agricultural building at Trekenning just before 11pm on Wednesday.

At its height, firefighters from St Columb, Newquay, St Dennis, Padstow, Wadebridge, St Austell, Launceston, Bodmin, Perranporth and Truro were at the scene.

Relief teams from Falmouth, Tolvaddon, Helston and Fowey were also called in first thing on Thursday morning.

However, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service have tweeted to say the incident has been scaled back and an investigation is due to take place on Thursday (18th March).

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Critical Control received reports starting at 22:50 of a fire in a barn at Trekenning, St Columb Major.

"Due to the nature of the call, four appliances were mobilised straight away from St Columb, St Dennis, Newquay and Padstow. In addition to this, two officers were also mobilised.

"The initial crews have requested further assistance and in total, the incident currently has 10 major appliances, 1 Aerial Ladder Platform and 2 Water Carriers along with 4 officers.

"One barn, measuring approx 30m x 50m is well alight.

"Update: The fire ground has now been sectorised with main and foam jets in use.

"Update at 7.40am: At this time firefighters are monitoring the building for hot spots.

"Update at 9.15am: Two appliances from Truro and St Austell remain on scene monitoring hotspots along with a flexi-duty officer and welfare vehicle from St Dennis.

"A fire investigation is due to take place this morning".
