Cornwall's main hospitals trust has recorded its first coronavirus related death in over a month.

NHS data shows it was confirmed on Saturday (22nd May) within the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.

It comes as figures show RCHT was caring for two coronavirus patients in hospital as of last Tuesday.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on May 18th was down from three on the same day the previous week.

There were two beds occupied by Covid-19 patients four weeks ago in Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

Across England there were 749 people in hospital with Covid as of May 18, with 114 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 55% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 58%.

The figures also show that two new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in the week to May 16. This was the same number as in the previous seven days.
