Cornwall to be battered by strong winds and big waves in 15-hour weather warning
The Met Office says there will be gusts of up to 60mph
Batten down the hatches, Cornwall is set to be battered by strong winds and big waves.
The Met Office has issued a 15-hour yellow weather warning for Wednesday, which will be in force from midnight through until 3pm.
Forecasters say there could be gusts of up to 60 miles an hour across the South West but the strongest winds will be in the Duchy.
People are urged to watch out for overtopping around the coast, power problems and travel disruption.
What to expect:
- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
"An area of strong wind is expected to affect western parts of the UK on Wednesday.
"Wind gusts of 55-60 mph are likely for the far southwest of England and the east of Northern Ireland.
"The strongest winds will affect Cornwall before transferring to part of eastern Northern Ireland later as winds ease from the southwest.
"A band of squally rain will move across the area through the period and may also prove an additional hazard."
