The people across Cornwall who've been awarded in the Queen's New Year's Honours list
Well done to all those being recognised for their hard work!
People across Cornwall have been recognised for their hard work and dedication to local communities in the Queen's New Year's Honours list.
Those named in the list include a member of Polzeath Coastguard Rescue Team, an operations manager at the Lizard Lifeboat Station and a member of Devon and Cornwall Police.
So let's meet some of those being honoured this year...
Who from Cornwall has been recognised in the New Year's Honours list?
OBE - David Alan John Walrond. Principal and Chair, Truro and Penwith College and Callywith College. For services to Further Education in Cornwall. (Truro, Cornwall)
David Walrond has been instrumental in the development of successful Further Education in Cornwall. He became Principal of the Ofsted Outstanding Truro and Penwith College in 2010, having joined the College in 2003 as Director of Curriculum and Quality. During his ten years as Principal, the College has seen major growth in its 16-19 learners and apprenticeships, completed the redevelopment of the new Penwith campus, and in 2017 created a major new campus at Callywith, Bodmin, to serve the whole of north and east Cornwall.
“It is wonderful to be honoured in this way. What is being recognised of course is the vital work for Cornwall of two remarkable institutions and the many outstanding colleagues who have made them what they are.”

MBE - Robert Roden Harris. Volunteer, H.M. Coastguard. For services to Voluntary Search and Rescue. (Wadebridge, Cornwall)
For Robert, half a century of service in his local community, including the establishment of Polzeath Coastguard Rescue Team where he now serves as Station Officer began when as a 21-year-old, he wanted to give something back to the area where he lives.
He’s attended more than 2,000 incidents, dedicating his life to responding to people in need, training others to his same high standards and often putting call outs before his personal life.
Typically, his response to receiving the award pays tribute to those he has served with and remembers those who have lost loved ones at the coast.
He said: “I feel so honoured and humbled to receive this award of an MBE and grateful to those who nominated me. Whilst this might be my award, it’s important to remember that I am one of a team, both past and present, who dedicate their lives to serving in search and rescue. I am immensely proud to be part of Her Majesty’s Coastguard and that in my fifty years' service, many hundreds of lives have been saved by these dedicated teams of volunteers.
"But I am also mindful of those whose lives who have been lost - and in these turbulent times, a heartfelt message to those families who have been bereft - we do not forget and it’s that also which enables us to continue through sun or storm to save the lives that we do.”

The 65-year-old, who is originally from Ireland, has lived on the Lizard since 1981.
He had previously lived near the local lifeboat station in his hometown and his father was a fisherman, he first became a life governor for the RNLI around 30 years ago.
"The lifeboat is very much a part of the fabric of this village, as it is in lots of other lifeboat towns and villages all around the UK and Ireland.
"The support that we command and the respect that we command, not just from the community here but visitors alike, is phenomenal.
"It's giving back to the community, the camaraderie of being involved with such a like-minded bunch of fellow volunteers, it's one mission in mind- to save lives at sea, the lifeboat is in the heritage of our village."
