The Cornish village pub who were told to change their name by a large magazine company, has had a framed letter of apology.

The Star Inn at Vogue stood its ground after receiving the original request from Conde Nast, who own Vogue Magazine, to change the name in March,

But the landlords pointed out the pub was named after the hamlet in which it is located, in the parish of St Day near Redruth, and has been around for longer than the magazine.

Publishers Conde Nast subsequently backed down, conceding they would have spotted their error had they investigated further, and landlords Mark and Rachel Graham on Thursday received a framed copy of the response.

Mark said: "Yesterday morning we received in the post a framed copy of the email with a compliment slip, and on the compliment slip it says: 'From one Vogue to another, please accept our apologies'."

"I thought it was very nice of them to actually accept they've actually been beaten by a small Cornish pub and send their apologies.

"Now I think it's all a bit surreal, I've been through all the emotions from the start of what are they doing, what will I have to do, is it someone having a laugh.

"We're going to either invite them down to do a photoshoot, invite them down for lunch, send a contingent from here up to do something".

The Grahams now hope to make the most of the situation by getting representatives of the magazine down to Cornwall to visit the pub, which is said to have stood for around 200 years.

Mr Graham said most of his regular customers are not big followers of the fashion world and that “half of them haven’t even heard of” Vogue magazine.

Mark continued: "I've recently found out one of the ladies from Conde Nast comes from Cornwall around this area and she knows about Vogue. No-one in the office asked her.

"I think, tongue and cheek, that's even funnier. It would never have happened. It's just a big company and they made a big mistake".

"We have a charity ale festival every year and what we're trying to do now, one of our barstaff Megan is a singer songwriter and she's busily rewriting the words to Madonna's song Vogue so we can do a little fashion parade dancing to Madonna with our own words.

"That'll be our final one. It's just leading on to that. It's a bit of a laugh but I'm sure people will find that a bit of fun".
