HM Coastguard has issued a safety warning after a spate of dog falls on cliffs in Cornwall.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were called to three incidents during the first week in March.

They included a pet that had slipped around 10ft down what seemed to be an old quarry at Feock.

Luckily, the animal had landed on a small ledge at Roundwood Quay and was able to be winched to safety.

St Agnes Coastguard were also called and both teams have urged owners to keep dogs on leads around cliffs and rough seas.

"On scene, it was discovered a dog had slipped about 10 feet down what appeared to be an old quarry face cut into the cliff side and was resting on a small ledge.

"Using specialist rope rescue equipment and an animal rescue bag, a rope rescue technician was lowered to the dog and she was successfully rescued. Both technician and dog safely lowered to the bottom of the cliff and handed over to very grateful owners.

"This is the third time this week we've been out to dogs over cliffs. Please be careful while out taking exercise. Keep dogs on leads around cliffs and rough seas.

"Please remember accidents do happen and can happen to anyone.

"The owner did exactly the right thing and called 999 and asked for Coastguard".
