10 year old Catalina's 50km walk to support lifeboat station
She did it after visiting Fowey on holiday
A ten year old girl has raised more than £1200 for a lifeboat station in Cornwall - by doing a fifty kilometre walk.
Catalina McManus from Bath was inspired to do the trek in the Brecon beacons after visiting the station at Fowey while on holiday.
Catalina told us, "We visited them every day because they're really brave going out - whatever the weather and whatever the time, they have to go out and they don't have an excuse not to go out for anyone."
Catalina and her parents covered nearly 50km in three days battling some grim weather conditions.
She described it to us as "Really wet, and more like a coastal walk than a walk in the mountains"
Catalina’s mother Marcelle said, "Astoundingly Catalina stayed cheerful almost constantly and she didn’t complain once!"
Catalina and her parents paid another visit to Fowey in November, where they were invited to have a guided tour of the lifeboat station and the all-weather lifeboat and to chat to some of the volunteer crew.
Fowey Coxswain, Jonathan Pritchard, said, "As the charity that saves lives at sea, we rely on the support of fundraisers like Catalina to help train and equip our volunteer lifeboat crews. Catalina’s fundraising achievement will be of immediate use to Fowey lifeboat station.
"All of our crew are extremely impressed by her efforts and very grateful for her donation. We were delighted to welcome her to the station, to hear all about her epic walk, and to present her with an RNLI mascot and a certificate of thanks.’
