Caravan fire breaks out on the A30 in Cornwall

Flames can be seen coming from the vehicle and the road is blocked

A vehicle fire has broken out on the side of the A30 in Cornwall.

A 4x4 that is towing a caravan has caught alight not far from Fraddon.

It happened in the eastbound direction on Thursday evening at around 6.20pm and is located at the top of Highgate Hill on the exit slip road for Indian Queens.

Firefighters from St Dennis are currently on the scene, with support on the way from Newquay and St Columb.

The road is blocked with queuing traffic and what is being described as 'severe congestion'.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

Inrix Traffic and Travel is also reporting that the vehicle has overturned.

It says: "A30 Eastbound blocked, queueing traffic due to overturned car between B3275 (Fraddon Services) and A39 (Indian Queens).

"A vehicle has overturned approaching the slip road and has caught fire."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters from St Dennis Community Fire Station are in attendance at a fire involving a car towing a caravan.

"The car and caravan are well alight. Two further pumps have been requested for extra water and they are responding from Newquay and St Columb.

"There is severe congestion due to this incident and drivers are advised to avoid the area whilst this incident is dealt with."
