A car that was understood to have been parked on a beach in north Cornwall has been swept into the sea.

Pictures show the vehicle being swamped by the incoming tide at Polzeath on Sunday (27th June).

It is understood no-one was inside when the incident happened and it was later towed to safety.

Local photographer Jack Neale captured the above image as the waves started to submerge the vehicle.

His later photo showed it completely underwater...

Polzeath Beach Ranger Service also shared a photo, saying that nobody was inside the vehicle.

They added that they were monitoring for any pollution risk and urged people not to go near.

Polzeath Beach Ranger Service said: "The Coastguard and Police are aware of the car floating off Polzeath Beach.

"It has been confirmed that nobody is inside.

"We are monitong any pollution risk - at the moment there is none and recovery is being planned".

They later told us that the vehicle was pulled to safety by the local landowner and owner of Wavehunters Surf School, once the tide had gone out.

They added at that point, the owner had yet to be in contact to explain how it had happened.
