Big bungalow fire breaks out in coastal Cornish village

Fire crews say the property is 'fully involved' in the blaze

A big bungalow fire has broken out in Porthtowan with the property said to be 'fully involved' in the blaze.

Multiple 999 calls were made just after 11am on Monday morning (18th July) about the fire on Coast Road.

Crews from Tolvaddon, Truro, Perranporth and currently on the scene tackling the flames.

The roof of the house is fully alight and there are currently five fire engines in attendance, along with an incident command unit and operational support vehicle.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service crews at the scene told us the cause of the blaze is not yet known and an investigation will be carried out.

A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At 11:02 this morning, critical control started receiving multiple 999 calls reporting a residential fire on Coast Road, Porthtowan.

"Crews from Tolvaddon, Truro and Perranporth were immediately mobilised, along with a whole time officer for support.

"On arrival, crews confirmed the roof of the property was well alight and requested a further two appliances be mobilised. Following this, appliances from Tolvaddon and Truro were mobilised.

"In total, there are currently 5 appliances, 3 officers, 1 Incident Command Unit and 1 Operational Support Vehicle assigned to this incident.

Update at 12.59pm: "-This property is a single storey detached bungalow which measures approx. 12 metres by 7 metres. The building is fully involved in fire. Crews on scene have 'made up' for a Water Carrier. This is now en route from Helston."
