Man arrested after armed police called to incident in Cornish village
It happened in Illogan on Tuesday, following reports of a stolen vehicle
A man has been arrested after armed police were called to an incident in a Cornish village.
Officers got the shout to reports of a stolen vehicle in Illogan, near Redruth, on Tuesday afternoon (17th May).
It was located on Spar Lane that evening and there were concerns a suspect had access to a weapon.
Negotiations were carried out and a man in his 40s was arrested and taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Police were contacted following reports of a sighting of a stolen vehicle had been stolen at around 3.15pm on Tuesday 17 May in Illogan.
"Units attended and located the vehicle in question at around 7pm on Spar Lane, Illogan.
"On arrival officers had concerns that the suspect could have access to a weapon, therefore officers including support from armed response vehicle (ARV) units attended.
"Following a period of negotiation, the male surrendered and was arrested. The local man in his 40’s was taken to hospital and enquiries continue into this matter."
