Almost 3,800 new coronavirus cases recorded in Cornwall over Christmas
Some parts of the Duchy now have a case rate of over 1,000 per 100,000 people

Official figures show the number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall increased by 3,754 in the last six days and two more deaths were recorded.
A total of 80,941 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Cornwall when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on December 29th (Wednesday), up from 77,187 on Tuesday.
Latest weekly figures show the Duchy recorded 3,264 cases in the seven days to Christmas Day, giving us a case rate of 567.1 per 100,000 people.
However in some parts of the Duchy, the case rate has risen to more than 1,000 per 100,000 people, including Newquay West (1,138.7), Newquay East (1,015.5) and Torpoint (1,193.7).
Officials say this Christmas was one of the busiest years ever for NHS staff in Cornwall and they have issued a New Year appeal, as they brace for an anticipated surge in Omicron Covid cases.
People are being urged to book their vaccines and stick to 'Plan B' restrictions, including to take regular tests.
There were also two more coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest six-day period in Cornwall.
The dashboard shows 629 people had died in the area by December 29 (Wednesday) – up from 627 on Thursday.
It means there have been three deaths in the past week, which is a decrease on 10 the previous week.
They were among 8,244 deaths recorded across the South West.
The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cornwall.
Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
The figures also show that four in five people in Cornwall have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.
The latest figures show 428,380 people had received both jabs by December 28 (Tuesday) – 81% of those aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.
Across England, 82% of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.
Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
