Cornwall's A30 reopens 19 hours after fatal crash

Two people lost their lives in the four-vehicle collision

A stretch of Cornwall's A30 has reopened 19 hours after a fatal crash.

Four vehicles were involved in Monday evening's collision in the Zelah area, including a lorry.

Police have confirmed that a man and a woman have died, the two people who lost their lives were occupants of the same car.

The incident happened at around 6.30pm between Carland and Chiverton Cross and part of the stretch remained shut through until Tuesday lunchtime.

Inrix Traffic and Travel says: "A30 in both directions re-opened, traffic easing, earlier accident investigation work from B3285 (Boxheater Junction, Zelah) to A390 (Chiverton Cross roundabout, Chiverton Cross). Previous congestion to roads through Goonhavern.

"The road was re-opened at 13:10, following an accident yesterday afternoon."

Witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage are being urged to contact Devon and Cornwall Police.

A Devon & Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 6.25pm on Monday 28 March, to reports of a four-vehicle road traffic collision occurred involving a Citroen Picasso, a Skoda Octavia, a Large Goods Vehicle and a Vauxhall Zafira.

"The collision occurred on the A30 between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross in the area of Zelah in Cornwall.

"As a result of the collision, a man and a woman, the occupants of the Citroen, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed.

"All other parties involved in the collision sustained minor injuries.

"Local officers as well as Officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team attended the scene.
