"Serious incident" closes stretch of A30 near Redruth in both directions

A stretch of the A30 in west Cornwall was closed in both directions because of a serious incident.

It happened between the junctions for Redruth and Tolvaddon first thing on Wednesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police have since confirmed a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

National Highways South West said that due to the severity of the incident, there was no estimate for how long the westbound carriageway will remain closed.

Diversions were in place and drivers were being urged to allow extra time for their journeys.

It has now been confirmed that the road has reopened in both directions.

At the time, National Highways South West said: "The carriageway has been closed due to an ongoing police led incident.

"Devon and Cornwall Police have completed their investigations.

"National Highways have service providers on route to complete the clean up operation.

"The eastbound carriageway has been reopened.

"Due to the severity of this incident there is no estimated time for reopening for the westbound carriageway".

Inrix Traffic and Travel first reported the incident just before 6am on Wednesday (September 1st).

Inrix said: "A30 Westbound closed. Very slow traffic due to police incident between Avers Roundabout and A3047 (Tolvaddon).

"Congestion to Scorrier and routes through Pool and Redruth as traffic diverts.

"The eastbound side re-opened at 12:15pm whilst the westbound closure is likely to remain in place until later this evening.

"Broad Lane which crosses over the A30 has also been closed.

"Diversion - via the A3047 through Redruth".
