A further 11 new coronavirus deaths recorded at Cornish hospital trusts

Nine people died at the RCHT and two in the care of the Cornwall Partnership Trust in the latest 24 hour period

A further 11 new coronavirus deaths have been recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (RCHT) and the Cornwall Partnership Trust in the latest 24 hour period.

Nine new coronavirus deaths have been recorded at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust in the latest 24-hour period, the latest official figures show.

NHS England figures show nine of those occurred at the RCHT, meaning 138 people had died in hospitals run by the trust as of 5pm on Wednesday (January 27).

That was an increase of nine compared to Tuesday, when there were 129.

It means there have been 25 deaths in the past week, up from 19 the previous week.

The total number of coronavirus deaths at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, two new coronavirus deaths were also recorded at Cornwall Partnership Trust during the same time.

It now brings the total number of deaths in hospitals run by the trust to 42 as of 5pm on Wednesday (January 27).

That was an increase of two compared to Tuesday, when there were 40.

It means there have been six deaths in the past week, down from seven the previous week.

The total number of coronavirus deaths in hospitals run by the Cornwall Partnership Trust since the pandemic began.

The victims were among 3,423 deaths recorded across the South West.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states:

"Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive.
