18 patients with coronavirus were being cared for in Cornish hospitals last week

The number of beds occupied by Covid patients has decreased by over 80% over the past four weeks

Figures have revealed that 18 patients with coronavirus were being cared for in Cornish hospitals last week.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust was caring for 13 Covid patients as of last Tuesday (March 9th).

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am that day was up from 11 on the same day the previous week.

But the number of beds at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 has decreased by 85% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 84.

The figures also show that 16 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in the week to March 7. This was up from 11 in the previous seven days.

Meantime the Cornwall Partnership Trust was caring for five coronavirus patients as of last Tuesday.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on Tuesday was down from 12 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 decreased by 89% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 45.

The figures also show that five new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in the week to March 7.

Across England there were 7,451 people in hospital with Covid as of March 9, with 1,187 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 66% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 59%.
