17 people were being treated for Covid at hospitals in Cornwall last week

NHS England data shows the number being cared for as of 27th July was down from 20 during the previous seven days

Latest figures available show that the Royal Cornwall Hospitals' NHS Trust was caring for 17 coronavirus patients in hospital.

That is how many were being treated as of 8am on Tuesday 27th July, according to data from NHS England.

The total is down from 20 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at RCHT occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 more than quadrupled in the last four weeks; 28 days ago there were 13.

Across England there were 5,163 people in hospital with Covid as of July 27th, with 738 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally more than trebled in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators almost trebled, increasing by 185%.

The figures also show that 22 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in the week to July 25th, up from 11 in the previous seven days.
