Woman charged with manslaughter after Stockport nursery baby death

A woman has been charged manslaughter following the death of a baby at a nursery in Stockport.

Police have been investigating the death of Genevieve Meehan who died following a 'medical episode' at Tiny Toes nursery in Cheadle in May 2022.

Kate Roughley, 36, of Heaton Norris, appeared at Tameside Magistrates on Tuesday and was bailed until an appearance at Minshull Street Crown Court next month.

Following her death, Genevieve's family released a tribute which said they were "devastated" adding "she had the most beautiful smile and enchanting emerald eyes".

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Kate Roughley (04/03/1987) of Heaton Norris has been charged with unlawful act manslaughter.

"She appeared at Tameside Magistrates on Tuesday 15 August 2023 and was bailed ahead of an appearance at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday 19 September 2023.

"These charges relate to an incident which took place at Tiny Toes nursery on Mellor Road in Cheadle on Monday 9 May 2022."
