A teenager has been arrested over reports of an alleged hate crime on a black schoolboy in Carlisle.

Footage on social media appeared to show a student being punched and pushed and made to kiss a white boy's shoe.

Cumbria Constabulary confirmed on Saturday that a teenage boy had been arrested in relation to a report of a "hate incident".

The force said it was aware of the video and "concerns in the community" and asked people not to share it further.

It went on: "As an arrest has been made we would urge people not to share the video further so as not to impede any legal proceedings or to identify any of the children involved."
